This exclusive micro lot is from Inkawasi district of Cusco, Peru.  The variety SL-09 from this region is extremely floral, citrus and sweet thus is also known as Inca Geisha.

The Story of Peruvian Andean Treasure: SL-09

I. Origin: A Lost Kenyan Gem

Born from the single-tree selection program at Kenya’s Scott Labs in the 1930s. Once nearly extinct in Kenya due to its low yield and environmental sensitivity, it crossed hemispheres in the 1950s via the CATIE exchange program to find a new home in Peru.

II. Truth: An Identity Revealed by Genetics

Mistaken for its beauty: Its intense jasmine aroma and bronze-tipped new leaves long caused it to be misidentified as “Inca Geisha.” In 2020, WCR genetic testing confirmed its true identity as SL-09, belonging to the Ethiopian Heirloom lineage. Though not a Geisha, it carries genetic potential and flavor depth that rival it.

III. Terroir: A Gift of High-Altitude Volcanic Soil

Grown between 1,900–2,300 meters, where cool temperatures allow slow, deliberate ripening. Volcanic soil: Mineral-rich earth infuses the cup with layered acidity and dimensional complexity. Carefully cultivated by Inca descendants in Cusco, embodying a deep reverence for nature.

IV. Flavor: An Exceptionally Clean Sensory Profile

Aroma: Jasmine, honeysuckle, and delicate white florals.

Character: Bright lime acidity interwoven with the lush sweetness of dragon fruit and starfruit.

Body: Silky texture, balanced acidity and sweetness, with a clean, lingering finish.

V. Commitment: Only for True Value

Since 2023, Peru have officially restored the SL-09 name. It is no longer a substitute for any other varietal — it stands as an independent and rare star in the specialty coffee world.

Farm Information:

Tabaco Pampa is located in the Inkawasi district of Cusco, nestled at the foot of the sacred and spiritually significant APU Choqesafra mountain. Situated at an exceptionally high altitude rarely found in other Peruvian coffee regions, this estate produces beans that exhibit a truly unique and unmistakable terroir.

The soil is volcanic, rich in minerals and abundant organic matter, providing a superior and stable nutrient source for the coffee trees. From the estate, one can look out toward the snow-capped peak of Choqesafra, surrounded by a breathtaking and pristine landscape.

The farm preserves rich native tree species and wild bird ecology, utilizing natural vegetation as a shade-grown system. This not only regulates the humidity necessary for growth but also continuously enriches the soil through fallen leaves, creating a healthy natural cycle. These extreme geographical conditions allow the coffee from this estate to possess vivid and unique flavor characteristics, establishing it as a pinnacle specialty coffee of the Inkawasi region.

Tasting notes:

White floral, jasmine, bergamot, and honey aroma. Flavors of grapefruit, and lime zest lead the way to ripe pear, white grape, peach, and plum. The acidity is clean, and bright; accompanied by a cane sugar sweetness. The body is silky and balanced, with an elegant finish of black tea and citrus peel.
